2020 in a nutshell

Wow 2020 what a year. In November Korey lost his job at Edge due to a great deal of misunderstanding and even more hurt. It sorta set the tone for what 2020 would bring. Korey was offered a job on the same day he lost his job and so set off to start a new job at Motus. Well that is when Coronavirus hit the US from China. A new virus that was killing so many people. The whole state went into lock down in March. The kids were pulled from school and all their activities. They were forced to home school. The shelves of the grocery stores were empty. You couldn't find toilet paper, flour, wheat, or yeast. We stocked and bought more food that this family of 6 could eat. We were forced to wear masks and social distance to flatten the curve. The whole world took to toilet paper hording and bread making, even me. Since we were forced to stay home and we had already had a house addition and remodel in the plans, and after we went through so much with Edge, we decided we were not going to wait for life we were going to live it. So we dove head first into a remodel. We added on a 3rd car garage and a new mud room, laundry room and pantry. The work kept us busy and that is what are healing hearts needed. We had heard about the troubles with renovating a home but we felt like we might escape it but we didn't. There were several injuries. Starting on just day 3 being the first, Korey cut his leg on a piece of tile in a bucket and had to have a bunch of stitches. That same day he misplaced his wallet. Not soon after McKinnon was "helping" back fill the foundation and was on his phone and Korey hit the side of the foundation. He was so mad he hopped in the truck to back up in anger and ripped the door of the Motus trailer and half the fender. That was the first day we learned we might have not measured the opening of the new garage door right and that maybe just maybe the boat wouldn't fit. We pressed on. Korey fell from scaffolding and rang his own bell pretty good. We had nothing but trouble with the new pantry door that was framed to the wrong size. We tried to make a door fit by cutting it down and while working on it Korey reached his hand over the spinning blade and cut the tips of two fingers. We are so lucky it was nothing more. We stitched them on the kitchen table. Well needless to say the rest is history. The house is done and we love most of it. Toward the end of the remodel Nana was suppose to get her hip replaced and in the process she had a stress test and it showed she needed an emergent heart cath and on May 21st we learned she needed emergent open heart surgery and an aortic valve replaced. June 8th came as Tiff and I took her to the hospital. She was in the OR for nearly 8 hours and when the surgeon finally came to update us. He had told us how stressed her heart truly was and how it had stopped right after they cracked her chest and that she was down for about 1 min and needed cardiac massage and a quick transition to the heart and lung by pass machine. He told us we would have to wait and see if she had any deficits.  Tiff and I went to the 5th floor anxiously to see her. Austin was her nurse and he prepared us for what we would see. She had 4 chest tubes, an external pace maker, and an IJ line in her neck as well as an ET tube in her mouth. When we went in the room and I said "mom" she immediately opened her eyes. I asked if she could see and hear me and she said yes. It was a very emotional experience. She lost her p wave on her EKG and she had sick sinus syndrome and could barely stand by the bed with 2 helpers. The doctors threatened a pace maker and we did a P wave dance with every therapist and nurse that came in the door and by the end of the week her p wave was back and her heart rate had increased. We took her home and the rest is history. My mom is my hero. She fought so hard to stay with us. While I stayed with Nana the kids went with Korey and his family to Flaming Gorge. We also were able to go to Lake Powell. We took Ethan and Brinkley and met up with Austin and Marley. It was a really fun trip. It rained so much on the first day. McKinnon learned how to spear fish. The girls joined Skyridge Cheer and the practices and games kept them busy. The season was off and just a little different with no competitions due to Covid. The kids were allowed to go back to school in August but they had to wear masks everyday. They took away drinking fountains and made all kinda of crazy rules about a virus we really knew nothing about. Dylainee moved to Freedom and Aniston to Skyridge. It is hard enough to move to a new school let alone a new school were you can't really meet any friends and certainly can't hang out with them. This would be the year were Aniston meets Tanner. He is a new friend but a new friend that wants to be a couple. So the last 3 months, Tanner is all Aniston can think about. In October we took the best vacation to Disney World, Florida. We had to wear masks and social distance but we loved it! Hawaii was amazing as well but I think after all the crap the end of 2019 and all the uncertainty 2020 had we were so grateful to just have each other.  I am sure there is so much more to tell but man what a year. We ended this crazy 2020 with an amazing Christmas. Kinnon got a new snowboard and bindings, Brinkley got clothes, gel nail polish, gel nail light and a safety jumper unit for her car. Aniston got a new bed, clothes, water bottle and a curling wand. Dylainee got a 3D pen, water bottle and clothes. As I write this I have just tested negative for Covid after spending new years eve sick and trying to finish this book so I can get my Mom to the hospital for her long awaited hip surgery in the morning. After this crazy year I just want my family to know how much I love them and how grateful I am to even just wake up under the roof even if it just for a few nights a year. May 2021 bring health, happiness and success to us all.
